Bernt Recollection is a retort from a lighting and design studio. The project parameters were to make a series of wood spun bowls on a lathe and turn them into a family of lights through deeper exploration and various material discoveries. Bernt Recollection is a symbol for my mother’s childhood home that was destroyed from an electrical fire. I chose to finish the wood using shou sugi, an ancient burning and distressing process. The sockets, braided cord and vintage bulbs were chosen to further extend the vintage and worn style that I was striving for. The rusted steel rod pivots in order to allow the pendant to work as a handle or a stand depending on the desired task.
